New Horizons and Dark Surfing with Sigmund

The Art Center Los Angeles is pleased to announce the opening of our new 'mini-museum' on Pico Boulevard, and we would be delighted to have you join us for a special preview of the exhibition, "Dark Surfing with Sigmund," showcasing a collection of new works by internationally acclaimed artist, Hans Weigand. The show will open on Thursday, November 18, at 6:30 pm.

Featuring new, large-scale works, produced in Weigand’s signature printing and painting technique, "Dark Surfing with Sigmund" explores the interplay between California’s buoyant iconography with its less glamorized, more nefarious, elements—inescapable in this land of pervasive pop culture. At once playful and disquieting, Weigand’s blend of the solitary surfer with dark, dystopic seascapes and relics of fallen heroism evoke a stunning encounter with the uncanny disguised as paradise.

Mastery Requires Magic

"If people knew how hard I worked to get my mastery, it wouldn't seem so wonderful at all."

Empower Power

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
