Know Where You're Going

The quality of your action depends on the quality of your being. Suppose you’re eager to offer happiness, to make someone happy. That’s a good thing to do. But if you’re not happy, then you can’t do that. In order to make another person happy, you have to be happy yourself. So there’s a link between doing and being. If you don’t succeed in being, you can’t succeed in doing. If you don’t feel that you’re on the right path, happiness isn’t possible. This is true for everyone; if you don’t know where you’re going, you suffer. It’s very important to realize your path and see your true way.

- Thich Nhat Hanh from "The Heart of The Matter" (Winter 2009)

Liza Simone meets Liza Simone

Phantom Galleries LA is a Los Angeles County based organization that transforms vacant storefront windows into 24/7 public art galleries. Each installation is a unique relationship between the participating Artist, Curator, Property Owner and the Community that the exhibit is in. Exhibits are curated by local Arts Organizations, Los Angeles based Galleries, Independent Curators, and Los Angeles based Artists. The project gives local artists an opportunity to exhibit their work, while fostering economic development by drawing attention to available retail space. The project promotes the creative communities of Los Angeles to a broader audience. By pooling our resources we can create goodwill and a sense that Los Angeles is a single community booming with culture.

Emily's Beauty in Balance

Beautifully Crafted and Perfectly Balanced ... Emily's words and her creations too...

It has become a guiding principle for me to strive for balance in all areas and in all endeavors. Through experiences both pleasant and trying I have come to realize that in my life, there is no quality more desirable, more honorable, more promising, or more worthy of my effort than the attainment of balance and the beauty therein.

I believe that in balance we find alignment, proportion and harmony. Balance embodies symmetry, stability, equality and poise. It gives us steadfastness, self control, self possession and focus. It is evenness, justice, equanimity and accord.

Balance is where we acclimate, calibrate, integrate and adapt. It is a regulation, a rectification or a minor adjustment; a slight compensation to make things stand on their own. It is the willingness to change; to alter our stance to suit the mechanics of the moment. The proper arrangement which is always changing and always challenging us to conform.

In balance is attunement, neutrality and redemption; balance is a place where everything is settled, everything is tallied, and everything is totaled. In balance we find the sum and the square, when all is accounted for. In the balance of ourselves we find our personal inventory; a statement of self, where we align with---and listen to---the center.

It is an instrument in tune, a beautiful face, the way life grows, Ying and Yang, day and night, darkness and light.
